I haven't updated the blog for a while. Where was I?

First, about Ome Marathon.

It was truly fun! Started slow, kept sensible pace in the middle, tried a bit harder after the halfway point, picked up the pace at the latter part, catching woman runners one by one, and then sprinted the last 100m to the finish line. I love 30km! Also doing a race for training purpose is good. I could run much easier and faster than the time when I do 30km pace run around the Palace. Yeah I made a 30km PB! Even after finishing, I still had energy and I didn't feel much damage from the race. Huge thanks to Steve, who paced me from 10km point to the finish. At the last 10km, everytime we passed a woman runner, he congratulated me with raising his fist and that made me want to do more!

Almost everone (except for Jay?) seemed to enjoy the race, and as an organizer I am very happy about it. As most of us are serious runners, we feel a sort of obligatory to make PB everytime you run a race, and sometimes it can be a big factor that you can't enjoy running. Time to time we need to purely enjoy the race experience, I think, and 30km is the perfect distance because for most of us it's the first time to run the distance therefore almost everyone's time is PB. 30km, what a nice distance!

Next year, Ome seems to be considering the race date to shift some weeks before Greater Tokyo Marathon on 3rd Sunday of Feb. If they do, we can run both, I want do both!

◎Distance: 30km

Tuesday, 17.4km at Gosho.

Tuesday, I went to run at Gosho. I didn't feel any damage from Ome, I would rather say, the good image from the latter part of Ome marathon still remains in my body and I could run better. I hope this good feeling will last until Nagoya.

Lap1 16'03
Lap2 15'57
Lap3 15'37
Lap4 15'37

◎Distance: 17.4km

Wednesday, Namban workout.

The good feeling from Ome didn't last long. I had a cold. Nevertheless I joined the 1000m x 6 workout in Yoyogi park. I was going to do a pace run but because I was late, everyone who did pace run last week had to join this speed workout. Sorry. I could barely make under 4min by a narrow margin. But I felt stronger at the last ones.

1 3'50
2 3'59
3 3'59
4 3'59
5 3'53
6 3'55

◎Distance: 11km

Up to today.

No running at all. My cold got worse. I'm not sure if I can do 30km tomorrow...

I have been wondering how your cold went. Hope it gets better soon. Have plenty of vitamin C. I feel crappy today because I didn't run yesterday and then worked so late last night I couldn't wake up and run, then today I brought my gear to work, but still couldn't get outside, and finally it rained and got dark and cold and I couldn't be bothered to get out there. Lack of motivation blues :-(
Tomorrow I have to go to Nagoya for work...I hope I can get up early enough to run first. Sorry to say my woes on your blog!
Get well soon!

Hi Mika
I did have fun at Ome. As you know - I am not a runner that tries to run for PBs. I really haven't had a PB in a major distance in 19 years. I like to have some interesting challenge thrown at me and then try to deal with it, so normally starting at the very back of 15,000 runners would be an interesting challenge to overcome. However Ome was one of those rare times when I really hoped to run at a certain pace in preparation for another race.

Anyway I really appreciate all your help organizing this event for us.

I hope your cold is getting better.

Jay
